As New Jersey’s only and one of an elite group nationwide of National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers, Rutgers Cancer Institute together with RWJBarnabas Health provides adult and pediatric patients access to the most advanced multidisciplinary, patient-centric cancer care from screening to diagnosis and treatment options including clinical trials, cellular therapies, sophisticated radiation therapy techniques and complex surgical procedures. Home to the state’s only freestanding cancer hospital and one of only 13 in the nation, the Jack & Sheryl Morris Cancer Center is a 12-story 520,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility. It provides inpatient and outpatient cancer services, coupled with ancillary services, space for wellness and education programming, and 10 additional research laboratories, all under one roof. The Morris Cancer Center is connected via a skybridge to Rutgers Cancer Institute and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, a leading academic acute care hospital.
As the state’s largest network of oncology specialists, our multidisciplinary teams of nationally renowned oncologists and researchers are at the forefront of cancer care and research and provide outreach and education for the communities we serve. At Rutgers Cancer Institute, researchers have made outstanding scientific contributions towards the national goal of reducing the incidence of cancer and improving the outcomes of cancer patients. The cancer center conducts basic, clinical, translational and population research through five comprehensive research programs comprised of faculty who form cohesive, interdisciplinary groups supported by peer-reviewed grants and Rutgers Cancer Institute shared resources.
Research at Rutgers Cancer Institute is currently being conducted in areas of cancer metabolism, precision medicine, tumor immunology, autophagy, cellular therapy, drug development and resistance, the relationship between cellular and genetic alterations and tumor development, cancer control and prevention, bioinformatics, and cancer genomics. Hundreds of clinical trials are currently available at Rutgers Cancer Institute and across the RWJBarnabas Health system.
