Research and Clinical Interests Irum Khan, MD, is as comfortable in a laboratory as she is a hospital. As a clinician, Dr. Khan cares for patients with acute and chronic myeloid malignancies, including leukemia, myeloproliferative and myelodysplastic disorders. Her research is focused on translational studies in myeloid malignancies, identifying therapeutic targets in myeloid leukemia and serving as principal investigator on numerous clinical trials. February 15, 2021: Researchers leading a Big Ten Cancer Research Consortium phase Ib/II study of concurrent durvalumab and radiation therapy (DUART) in adults with unresectable, cisplatin ineligible locally advanced bladder cancer, reported promising results during recent virtual scientific meetings. Monika Joshi, MD, MRCP, sponsor-investigator of the BTCRC-GU15-023 study, presented a rapid abstract session during the 2021 Genitourinary Cancers Symposium on Friday, Feb. 12, that built upon data previously reported by study co-author Leonard C. Tuanquin, MD, during an oral scientific session at the ASTRO Annual Meeting, on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2020. Read More
February 3, 2021: This month, the Big Ten Cancer Research Consortium highlights the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University as our featured member. Daniela Matei, MD, the Diana, Princess of Wales Professor of Cancer Research, professor of Hematology / Oncology and Gynecologic Oncology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, and co-leader of the Translational Bridge Program at the Lurie Cancer Center, was featured in the story, “From Behind the Iron Curtain to a Career in Gynecologic Cancer Research,” in the ASCO Post. February 1, 2021: The Big Ten Cancer Research Consortium recently appointed Elisavet Paplomata, MD, assistant professor of hematology/oncology at University of Wisconsin School of Medicine, and Eugenia Girda, MD, FACOG, assistant professor of obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive sciences at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, as new co-chairs of the Big Ten CRC’s Gynecologic Clinical Trial Working Group. Their leadership will support collaboration and mentoring opportunities within the working group, and will guide the development of Big Ten CRC gynecologic clinical trials, from initial LOI submission, review, and approval, to expert feedback throughout the life of each ongoing study, and final publication. January 8, 2021: Monika Joshi, MD, MRCP, associate professor of medicine at Penn State College of Medicine and a medical oncologist at Penn State Cancer Institute, has been appointed as the chief scientific officer of the Big Ten Cancer Research Consortium. She succeeds Ruth O’Regan, MD, who now serves as chair of the Department of Medicine at the University of Rochester. Loehrer, Sr., MD, director of the Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center, with two new awards during the Big Ten CRC Virtual Summit, hosted by the Cancer Center at Illinois, on Friday, January 8.
