Big Ten CRC accepting applications for executive officer

April 30, 2014: The Big Ten Cancer Research Consortium (Big Ten CRC) is accepting applications for executive officer. This is an exciting time for the consortium, with several clinical trial working groups (CTWGs) meeting regularly, three LOIs approved, and numerous concepts under discussion. Leading gastrointestinal cancer expert joins IU Simon Cancer Center

April 21, 2014: A leading gastrointestinal cancer expert has joined the Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center. Bert Howard O'Neil, M.D., has been named the inaugural Joseph W. and Jackie J. Cusick Professor of Oncology and a professor of medicine at the IU School of Medicine. He is also the Phase I director and director of the gastrointestinal cancer research program at the IU Simon Cancer Center, and he will represent the cancer center on the Big Ten Cancer Research Consortium steering committee. Holt to lead project management for Big Ten CRC protocols

April 15, 2014: The Big Ten Cancer Research Consortium announces Zoe Holt, CCRP, will serve as senior project manager. NCI renews Masonic Cancer Center as a Comprehensive Cancer Center

April 8, 2014: The National Cancer Institute has renewed its designation of the Masonic Cancer Center, University of Minnesota, as a comprehensive cancer center after a highly competitive and rigorous process. The reviewers recommended support for the Masonic Cancer Center of nearly $20M over the next 5 years. Final funding levels are still being determined by the NCI. This is the fourth consecutive designation awarded to the Masonic Cancer Center, which is one of only two NCI-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the state of Minnesota and one of only 41 such centers nationwide. Thayer to lead surgery at Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center

March 25, 2014: Sarah Thayer, M.D., Ph.D., an internationally recognized physician-scientist from Harvard Medical School, will be joining the University of Nebraska Medical Center to lead cancer surgery efforts and have a significant leadership role in the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center. Rutgers president cites consortium as example of academic collaboration

March 21, 2014: Rutgers University President Dr. Robert Barchi recently cited the Big Ten Cancer Research Consortium as an example of the academic collaboration that is possible between the Big Ten member institutions. Big Ten CRC accepting applications for oncology trial concepts

Jan. 8, 2014: The Big Ten Cancer Research Consortium (Big Ten CRC) is actively seeking concepts for highly translational oncology trials that leverage the scientific and clinical expertise of Big Ten universities. The consortium is setting the goal to receive at least one new concept from each institution during 2014. Click here to download the Request for Application (Microsoft Word format). UNMC’s Julie Vose to be president of ASCO in 2015-2016

Dec. 23, 2013: University of Nebraska Medical Center's Julie Vose, M.D., has been elected president of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) for a one-year term beginning in June 2015. Vose will take office as president-elect during the ASCO annual meeting in Chicago in June 2014. Big Ten Cancer Research Consortium addresses IRB review process

Dec. 12, 2013: Representatives of the Big Ten Cancer Research Consortium (Big Ten CRC) institutions met recently in Chicago to discuss development of a collaborative IRB review process for Big Ten CRC studies. Participants focused on the benefits and challenges of a reciprocal deferral agreement, which would expedite the approval process for multi-site trials and avoid duplicate reviews at each site.
